Finally, some positive economic signs. Oregon wind farms win millions in federal funding, energy and heath care jobs are in demand and there are glimmers of hope that the economy is rebounding. But it's not all good: BC's tough budget is cutting green programs and Portland has its fill of the overeducated and unemployed.

Is Seattle's waterfront tunnel project a done deal or not? It's perhaps the biggest issue in the mayor's race. Candidate Mike McGinn is against the tunnel. His opponent Joe Mallahan supports the tunnel. The short answer is yes, the tunnel could be stopped, but not easily.

There's a tough new rule in WA's Skagit Valley's never-ending struggle to preserve farmland. From now on, you won't be allowed to build a new house on land zoned for farming, unless you're a farmer. Not a make-believe farmer, but one actively making a living from the land.

Snohomish County Executive Aaron Reardon has vetoed an ordinance that would have banned "mini cities," a type of planned community featuring dense clusters of homes and shops in the county's rural areas. A regional planning council has recommended counties avoid these new fully contained communities because of their potential to create sprawl.
