West Coast governors Tuesday released an action plan for improving ocean health by curbing pollution, preventing oil spills and reducing the harm of shoreline development. The strategy also calls for a coordinated look at ecologically-sound offshore energy development, including "opposing all new offshore oil and gas leasing, development and production" and investigating renewable wind, wave, current and tidal energy.

British Columbians are going to become very familiar with three initials that represent an entirely new and unfamiliar order of quasi-government. If the plans now being laid at a furious pace work out, WCI -- the Western Climate Initiative -- will have a significant impact on life in B.C. starting in January 2012.

Portland General Electric Co. on Tuesday unveiled the first of a dozen new electric charging stations for what it expects will be a future onslaught of plug-in hybrid autos. The Portland-based electric utility provided a demonstration of the new charging stations outside its downtown headquarters, where a prototype of a new plug-in version of the Toyota gas and electric-fueled Prius was plugged in.

With wind turbine towers popping up on the U.S. landscape at a rate of almost 10 per day, the need for people to maintain and repair them is reaching the critical point. Community colleges in North Dakota and other states are jumping at the chance to help fill that need and develop a niche for themselves at the same time through wind tech programs

Not ready to retire just yet? Consider asking your boss if you can work part-time or telecommute. A study released Wednesday by Hewitt Associates found 61 percent of U.S. companies have or will develop programs that let workers retire in stages. The programs are intended to hold onto the experience of baby boomers, and ease the difficulty of replacing their skills.
