EPA Climate Hearing in Seattle

Posted by Anna Fahey
May 21: A public hearing about EPA greenhouse gas regulation.

In April, the Environmental Protection Agency announced a finding that greenhouse gases pose a threat to human health and welfare. Based on rigorous, peer-reviewed analysis, this is a first step in beginning to regulate global warming pollution.

"This finding confirms that greenhouse gas pollution is a serious problem now and for future generations. Fortunately, it follows President Obama's call for a low carbon economy and strong leadership in Congress on clean energy and climate legislation," said Administrator Lisa P. Jackson. "This pollution problem has a solution - one that will create millions of green jobs and end our country's dependence on foreign oil."

Climate rallyThe ruling initiates a 60-day comment period before any proposals for regulations governing emissions of heat-trapping gases are published.

On May 21st Seattle will be host to one of only two EPA public hearings in the entire country.

Local citizens and advocates concerned about climate and energy policy -- as well as public health -- have organized a rally to coincide with this all-day hearing. Here are the details:
