CNN spends the day with the carless Durnings.

On Friday, CNN spent 7 hours following Amy and me around, and interviewing our kids, about living on a low-car diet. The resulting 2.5-minute segment appeared on Anderson Cooper 360 on Monday.

And you can watch the clip online on CNN's technology page. (Look in the green box on the right side of the page called "Watch Free Video." Look for the story, "Save the planet, ditch your car." Oh, and if anyone can tell me the permalink for the clip, I'll happily post it.)

It's great to see you getting the coverage, to prove to people that this is very much possible, but it's discouraging that it's treated as such an anomaly. The reality is that we already have a decent chunk of the population that lives without cars centered around cities and well-designed neighborhoods. Getting people to realize that choosing their neighborhood or real estate should be based more on ease of use as opposed to maximum market value just hasn't been introduced as a concept yet at this point.

Yippee! We just watched the video clip. Because it is now "old news" you have to agree to subscribe to CNN Pipeline, which has a free 14-day trial, then it is $3/month. Since we don't have a TV anyway, I thought I'd splurge and add a little CNN to our previously NPR-only media diet.
